| Prunus trilobavar.multiplex is a large cumbersome shrub or small tree. Leaves are alternate, simple, obovate to broad-elliptic. The medium green foliage turns yellow to bronze in the autumn. The pink double flowers are 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide and very showy, but they are often injured by late frosts. There is some confusion about which form is the original one, P.trilobavar.multiplex or P.trilobavar.simplex, which is the single flowering form. P.trilobavar.simplex bears round, red, downy fruits. The multiplex variety was introduced from China in 1885. |
