| Prunus nigra is a small, upright branching tree, growing to 30 feet. The leaves are alternate, simple, elliptic to obovate, dark green, glabrous.
The white flowers are over 1 inch wide, in groups of 3 to 4, emerging from the leaf axils before the leaves appear in mid to late spring. The fruit is a yellowish-red to red drupe, borne at the summer's end. Introduced in 1773. |
