|Spineless, upright, deciduous, vigorous shrub. Grows to 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide. Dark green leaves are slightly hairy, rounded, 3 to 5 lobed, toothed and heart-shaped at the bases, 2 to 4 inches long. Deep red tubular flowers with white throats are held in pendant racemes, 2 to 4 in. long, followed by rounded, glaucous, black fruit, 1/4 in. across. A native to coastal California up to British Columbia.
