| This is a spreading, deciduous small tree or shrub with softly fuzzy to hairless branches and shoots. Grows to 20 feet tall and wide. Leaves are pinnately compound, to 20 inches long, with 13 to 17 widely ovate, deep green leaflets, which are tinged with pink when young and turn brilliant purplish-red to orange in the fall. Yellow flowers are in upright, pyramidal panicles to 4 inches long. Fruit is yellowish-brown, round, bristly.
Withstands poor, exposed conditions and little water. Fantastic fall color. Bold texture, especially with fall color, a nice accent. Native to central China, Japan, Korea. |
