Ocimum basilicum
( Nufar Sweet Basil )
| 'Nufar' is the first fusarium-resistant variety available. It has shown great promise in tests conducted at the University of Massachusetts. This is an important development for both commercial growers and home gardeners who have seen their basil crop wilt and die quickly from fusarium. It is a Genovese type basil with great flavor.
Bushy plant with ovate, glossy, bright green and sometimes purple leaves often with a toothed edge to 2" long. White flowers grown on spikes should be removed as they take too much energy away from the plant. Used for cooking, especially Italian and Thai dishes. Seeds may be sown in early spring or transplants set out after last frost. Full sun and regular waterings a must for full, healthy crop. |
| Important Info : Do not be disappointed if seeds seem to take a long time to germinate. |
