| Erect, spiny, deciduous shrub. Shoots are often bristly, red when immature. Grows to 6 feet tall and wide. Thick, medium green leaves are shiny, round to ovate, 3 to 5 lobed, to 1 1/2 inches in length. Deep red, fuchsia-like flowers with protruding red stamens are held in pendent racemes, 1 inch in length. Fruit is rounded, red, bristly, 1/2 inch diamter. Once established can tolerate heat and drought. A native to California and Baja California. |
