| Abies homolepis or Nikko Fir is a tall, beautiful, formal evergreen native to Japan. Under cultivation it generally reaches 50 feet, but under ideal conditions may reach 130 feet tall. The needles are a glossy, dark green. Growth habit is dense and pyramidal, forming a fat spire. The cylindrical cones are 4 to 5 inches long, pale green when young, turning brown with age. Suited to midwestern and eastern states. Introduced 1861. |
