| Evergreen shrub with wide-spreading growth, 2 to 3 feet tall. Stiff to spiny branches. Leaves are shiny, medium green above, brownish underneath, round, usually toothed, 1/2 inch in length. Yellowish-green, unisexual flowers are borne in axillary clusters. In the fall, bears round, red fruit to 1/2 inch across. Best adapted to cold, dry areas with poor soil. Native to Southwest California, Coast Ranges. |
