Quercus coccinea
( Scarlet Oak )
| This rounded, deciduous tree derives its name from the beautiful dark red fall foliage. Bark is pale gray-brown in scaly plates. Leaves are dark green, glossy, and eliptic with deep lobes ending in sharp tips. Tufts of hair in vein axils beneath. Acorns are ovoid to nearly round. Native to the eastern US, the Scarlet Oak is one of the fastest growing oaks and is a superb street, lawn or border tree because of its deep roots. |
