| Bushy, suckering, evergreen shrub, usually 3-10 feet tall and wide, or rarely small tree to 30 feet tall. Leaves are oval to round, to 2 1/2 inches in length, toothed, leathery, glossy, deep green. Pinkish-white flowers are in conical panicles to 10 inches long, followed by flat, red fruit that is sometimes added to drinks for flavor.
Withstands poor, exposed conditions and little water. Bold texture makes a nice accent. Native to Southern California coast, Baja California, Channel Islands. |
