|This is a rounded to spreading, deciduous tree, to 20 feet tall and wide. Leaves are ovate, often lobed, purple, up to 3 inches long. Red buds produce semidouble, large, crimson flowers in spring. Reblooming occasionally occurs in the fall. Produces wine red fruit approximately the size of a cherry. This tree does well in most soil, but will be more attractive if fed peat and compost.
