|Mahonia bealei is an upright, evergreen shrub. The foliage is dull green to blue-green, presenting a coarse texture. Lightly fragrant, yellow flowers bloom in midspring on 4 inch long, upright racemes. The fruit is a bluish berry, maturing in late summer. It is very widely used in the southeastern U.S. Birds love the fruit, disseminating the seeds to out of the way areas. Native to China, introduced in 1845.
