| Rutabagas are a biennial grown as an annual and require at least 26 weeks to mature. Soil should be light and fertile. Nitrogen levels in soil should be low for this cool season crop.
Begin sowing seeds anywhere from early to late spring, about 3/4 inch deep. Thin so that plants are about 9 inches apart. Do not let plants or maturing roots dry out. Plants should mature around fall and may be left in the ground through mid winter. Harvested plants store for four months is left outside in covered crates. Boron defeciencies are sometimes a problem. |
