| Moderately fast growing, spreading, arching, deciduous tree with spiny shoots. Grows to 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Dark green leaves are pinnate to 10 inches in length, with up to 15 ovate leaflets. Deep pink, fragrant, showy flowers, to 1 inch long are held in pendant racemes, to 8 inches in length.
'Idaho' is a sterile variety and thus does not produce seed pods. Though a popular street tree, it really should not be used close to power lines where mature, hard wood has to be pruned in order to keep a nice form. Good choice for gardeners in the Rocky Mountains. |
