Rhododendron atlanticum
( Nacoochee Coast Azalea )
| Fragrant flowers are white with a tint of pink, to 1 1/2 inchers across. The bluish green leaves provide a nice contrast of color. Suckering habit, 3 to 6 feet tall and wide.
The deciduous native azalea, like it's hybrid counterpart, is known for excellent fall color and unsurpassed spring flowers. The deciduous azalea is usually less picky about soil, though it too prefers acid conditions. Though azaleas have a potentially large list of possible pest and disease problems, they are usually trouble free if planted correctly in proper cultural conditions. |
