|Spiraea japonica Golden Carpet is a short, spreading deciduous shrub with a prostrate habit. Sharply toothed, lance-shaped leaves are golden yellow, up to 3/5 inch long, turning bronzy in fall. In summer, small, pink flowers are borne sparingly in upright, rounded corymbs to 2 inches in diamter. Spiraea can be nipped by late frost, prune after flowering. Fast growing, good for a ground cover. Prefers full sun and well drained soil. Native to China and Japan.
