| Deciduous tree or shrub to 30 feet tall. Fragrant saucer-shaped flowers, open from ovoid flower buds, magenta stamens. Bark is brown with grayish purple twigs. Leaves are dark green above, lighter green below with fine hairs. Prefer rich, moist soil and partial shade. One of the hardiest of the Oyama type of Magnolias.
