Rhododendron hybrida
( Girard Mount Saint Helens Girard Azalea )
| A cold hardy (down to -5 degrees Fahrenheit), deciduous azalea of medium to large size grown for it's large flowers. Girard Mount Saint Helens has an upright habit and stunning copper-pink flowers with yellow and orange markings, borne in large trusses of up to 15 florets. Foliage provides some nice fall color and persists until mid-winter.
This particular azalea hybrid was bred by Girard Nursery's in Geneva, Ohio. Flowering time is from early to late spring depending on cultivar and growing climate. Plant as you would any of the other azaleas: high and in well-drained, acid soil, rich with organic matter. Though azaleas have a potentially large list of possible pest and disease problems, they are usually trouble free if planted correctly in proper cultural conditions. |
