| 'Northwood' is a fast growing, hardy, upright tree with ascending branches and a broadly rounded form with age. Reaches 40 to 60 feet tall and spreads 30 to 40 feet. New foliage emerges vibrant red, turns dark green in summer and brilliant yellow, orange and fiery red in fall. Smooth, light gray bark becomes deeply ridged with age. Showy red flowers precede foliage on intriguing reddish branches. Exceptional fall color. An excellent lawn tree. Native to eastern United States. Particularly adaptable to the Minnesota climate. 'October Glory' (best heat tolerance) and 'Red Sunset' (better in cooler areas) are widely available. |
