| This genus consists of short-stemmed perennials that look similar to a palm. In some species, there is no stem. Leaves sit atop long, round stems and resemble a fan. Flowers are insignificant. May be grown as a houseplant or in tropical areas, outside in shade. Leaves from this plant are used to make Panama hats. As a houseplant, grow in full sun with protection during the middle of the day. Outdoors, grow in well-drained soil with some shade. |
