| 'Fremont' is generally ready for harvest 75 to 85 days after sowing. Very popular variety with commercial growers. 2 to 2.5 pound heads are white and do well when planted either late-spring or early summer. Dependable yield. In cooler regions, like the Maritime Northwest, cauliflower can be grown for summer and fall harvest. In milder areas with longer growing seasons and less risk of heavy freezes, they can overwinter, and be harvested in the spring.
Cauliflower likes fairly alkaline soil. Soils with even a mild acidity often do not produce worthwhile crops.
Start seedlings indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. In warmer climates, sow seeds 1/2 inch deep. Plants should generally be 24 inches apart, to allow for best head production. Water well throughout the season. |
