| Photinia villosa is a large deciduous shrub, which can be trained as a tree, reaches 10 to 15 feet in height, less in spread. The foliage is dark green, yellows in the summer and finally changes to bronzy red in fall. Flowers in late spring or early summer, small white blooms on 1 to 2 inch diameter corymbs. In mid fall a bright red pome is produced, which will persist on the shrub if not devoured by birds. Rarely requires pruning, prefers well drained, acid soil. Fireblight can devastate this species. Can be a nice border or specimen shrub, with nice fruits and fall color. Native to Japan, Korea. |
