| Syringa x chinensis is a hybrid between S.x persica and S.vulgaris. It is a spreading shrub, with arching, graceful branches, 8 to 15 feet tall and wide. Fragrant flowers are lilac-purple, borne on loose 4 to 6 inch panicles. This is one of the first hybrid lilacs, originating in Rouen, France in 1777. Must be kept pruned, to prevent legginess. Several cultivars are available. |
