| Poncirus trifoliata is a medium sized deciduous shrub with spiny, green stems, can reach 8 to 20 feet tall with a lesser spread. The foliage is dark green, attractive trifoliate leaves. Fall color is yellow-green to yellow. The bright green stems are quite noticeable and the spines are very nasty. Flowers bloom in late spring, sweetly fragrant, white, 1 to 2 inches wide, borne singly. In fall, a 1 1/2 inch wide, yellow, sour berry-like fruit appears with a soft down covering, quite decorative.
Prefers well drained, acid soil and full sun. Can be used as a barrier hedge in the south. Not particularly bothered by pests. Native to Korea and China. |
