| This erect-stiff perennial is known for exceptional hardiness, tolerant of poor soils and little water. The foliage is mid-green and has unbranched, hairy stems with ovate leaves 2-3 inches long with heart-shaped bases. It blooms in early summer to mid-summer bearing terminal, rounded cymes of 10-30 star-shaped scarlet flowers with 2 deep notches. Often, flowers will remain through first frost. Should be supported or staked. |
