| The cultivar, 'Rubicon' is a distinctive slow growing conifer with compact dense growth. Attractive blue-green summer foliage changes to plum-purple in winter. Tolerates heavy, poorly drained soils. Plant in full sun for best growth. Hardy in zone 3b. Grows to a height of 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Keep moist until completely established. Prefers constantly moist soil. Native to swamps and bogs. Fertilize in spring just before new growth begins. No pruning is needed.
C. lawsoniana, syn. Cupressus lawsoniana, a narrowly columnar, coniferous tree that has spreading branches leading to sprayed foliage that is somewhat scaly. Female cones are wrinkled, reddish brown and sometimes glaucous. Male cones are a bluish black in bud. The buds and cones are small. This plant enjoys low humidity and cooler weather.
