| The oval, deep green, hairy joints reach up to 6 inches in length and have none to only 1 or 2 yellow spines of 1 inch extending from multiple reddish areoles while yellowish glochids cover the surface. In summer the large pale yellow flowers are borne singly and then produce dark red fruit. This genus has the largest membership of sun loving species. Australia has even banned a few species because of their rapid growth. |
