| The grayish-green or green, oval or elongated, flattened joints, reach up to 6 inches in length and have 1 or 2 yellow spines about 1 inch, extending from multiple brownish areoles while short glochids cover the surface. In summer the large flowers are borne singly and then produce pear shaped, long, red fruit. This genus has the largest membership of sun loving species. Australia has even banned a few species because of their rapid growth. |
