| Acer japonicum, a japanese maple with fernlike leaves. This is a spreading, deciduous tree with toothed, mid green leaves turning red in the autumn. Produces umbels of red-purple flowers. Leaves tend to scorch in hot, dry weather. The cultivar, 'Aconitifolium' is a large shrubby tree to 30 feet tall, often as wide as tall. Green leaves changing to scarlet with gold and orange in the autumn. It flowers freely in red flowers before the new leaves appear. |
