| 'Allegheny' has darker leaves than the type and bears yellowish white flowers. Viburnum x rhytidophylloides is a hybrid between V. lantana and V. rhytidophyllum. It is a deciduous viburnum up to 10 feet tall, equal spread, with dark leathery green leaves, an arching, spreading habit, rounded form. The attractive large leaves have thick down on the undersides, and often hold on until late fall.
The reddish drupe darkens to black in fall, the quality and abundance depend on the cultivar and the availability of a pollinator. Useful against foundations, screening, border and possibly as a specimen. |
