| 'Notcutt' is a more vigorous shrub than the species with larger flowers, fruits in an excellent maroon-red fall color. Viburnum opulus is spreading shrub with arching branches, growing 8 to 15 feet high.
The foliage is glossy dark green, sometimes turns yellow-red to purple in fall, though not consistently. The white flowers bloom in late spring, on flat topped cymes, with sterile showy flowers combined with inconspicuous fertile flowers. A red berry-like drupe ripens in the fall, quite ornamental, gradually shriveling over the winter.
Easy to grow, adaptable to different soil types, occasionally bothered by aphids and borers. Good multipurpose shrub. |
