| Pinckneya pubens is a large deciduous shrub or small tree. It has an open habit, gray-brown bark, and dark green leaves. The principal attraction is the flowers which are yellowish-green, trumpet-shaped, 1/2 to 1 inch long, with showy sepals in white to rose, often mistaken for petals. Prefers moist, well drained, acidic soil and some shade. Beautiful flowering accent plant, especially sited by stream. Not bothered by pests, unfortunately not very cold hardy. Native from South Carolina to Florida. |
