| Hyacinthina is a cormous perennial with linear, basal leaves. Produces flat umbels of up to 20 or more white or pale blue flowers. In general, Triteleia is a pretty corm that first puts up grass-like leaves, then a stalk that bears clusters of funnel-shaped flowers, blue to violet, 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide, late spring or early summer. Natural habitat is in adobe soil, with heavy spring rains followed by a complete drying up in the summer. In the garden provide sandy, gritty soil, if you are in a moist summer area. In cold areas they need to be mulched in the winter to protect them from heavy freezing. Makes a very nice cut flower. |
