| Branching summer annual with light hair on leaf blades and spikelets in several upright fingers. Grows to 40 inches high and spreads rapidly. Prefers moist or shaded mountain climates in the southern United States. Seeds remain viable for years. Invasive and considered a noxious weed in many eastern states and counties. Used as a packing material for porcelain in East Asia where it is native, which is how it is thought to have spread to North America. |
