| 'Tortuosa' is an upright, fast-growing tree with thin, greenish-brown, marvelously twisting shoots that provide a fantastic display in winter. Leaves are also twisted, forming circular patterns, narrow and lance-shaped, bright green, up to 4 in. long. Narrow, yellowish-green catkins on males, to 2 in. long, with yellow anthers, on females to 1 in. long. Grows to 50' tall and 25' wide. A beautiful specimen by water, but don't plant this tree anywhere near a septic system or its lines or you and the Roto-Rooter man will know each other on a first name basis. Also commonly listed as Salix matsudana 'Tortuosa'. |
