| Shrubby perennials. Leaves are medium green, large and palmate, with lance-shaped leaflets to 5 inches long. Grown for their brilliant bi-colored red and rich pink, sweet pea shaped, 4 to 6 inch long flowers on tall spikes in spring and early summer. Wonderful cottage garden additions, eye-catching when planted in large masses. Other than requiring good drainage, not fussy about soil. Can start from seed in winter or early spring. This plant grows best where summers are cool. Great beach plant growing 5 to 6 feet in height. |
