| Styrax americanus is a small, rounded, shrub with a delicate appearance. Foliage is bright green, does not have appreciable fall color. Flowers are white, beautiful and bell-shaped, appearing in early to mid summer. Fruit is a pretty grayish drupe, fall ripening. Prefers cool, moist, acidic soil, native habitat is along streams. Native from Virginia to Florida, west to Missouri and Louisiana. Can sow seeds in fall for spring germination. |
