| The yellow-green, oval-elongated, flattened joints, reach up to 5 1/2 inches in length and have 5 to 8 yellow spines up to 1 inch extending from multiple white areoles, while yellow-brown glochids cover the surface. In summer the mass of pale yellow flowers are borne singly and then produce fruit. This genus has the largest membership of sun loving species. Australia has even banned a few species because of their rapid growth. |
