Rhododendron hybrida
( Jeff Hill North Tisbury Azalea )
| Resembling its ancestor, Rhododendron nakaharai , this hardy, evergreen azalea is a very late bloomer, continuing well into midsummer. Habit is rounded, spreading, and low, making it a very suitable ground cover or hanging basket. Flowers of Jeff Hill are dark pink and showy. After 13 years this cultivar can reach 17 inches tall and spread 26 inches.
Plant as you would any azalea: high and in well-drained, acid soil, rich in organic matter. Filtered light is best. North Tisbury hybrids have been produced by Mrs. Polly Hill on Martha's Vineyard since 1957. Though azaleas have a potentially large list of possible pest and disease problems, they are usually trouble free if planted correctly in proper cultural conditions. |
