| Evergreen tree or shrub, which can reach 90 feet tall in this variety. Twigs are covered with white silky hairs. It is multi-stemmed with smooth grayish brown bark. The glossy leaves are medium green on the upper sides, white to silvery below. Flowers often have a slight lemon scent, in a pretty pink color, an excellent choice for placing near a patio or porch. The outer seed coat is red to orange, providing fall interest. Native to swampy areas of Georgia and Florida and west to Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, north to New York and Massachussettes. Although it's native habitat is swampy, under cultivation it does not tolerate saturated soil. |
