| Acer saccharum is a large maple best known as the source of maple syrup. 'Flax Mill Majesty' (or just 'Majesty') is a rapid grower with numerous thick branches and an oval form, reaching 60 to 75 feet tall, occasionally 120 feet tall. Resistant to sun scald and frost crack. Mature bark is deeply furrowed, gray brown. Foliage is dark green in summer; orange and red color are displayed in fall. Greenish-yellow flowers are borne on 1- to 3-inch clusters, in mid spring. Prefers moist, well drained fertile soil, tolerates shade, does not tolerate pollution or salt. Leaf scorch can be serious in drought conditions, and Verticillium wilt can be serious. It is an excellent tree for large park areas, with unparalleled fall color and overall attractive appearance. |
