|This is an upright, dense deciduous shrub or small tree, to 10' tall and 15' wide. Shoots are narrow, velvety-grayish when young, red to brown later. Leaves are rosemary-like, linear, entire, deep green above, underside silvery-gray and hairy, up to 8 in. long. Foliage turns a lovely yellow in fall. Narrow, medium-green catkins to 2 in. long, males have yellow anthers. Native to S.Europe and S.W. Asia.
