| Acer saccharum is an attractive maple best known as the source of maple syrup. 'Globosum' is a slow grower with a dense, rounded form, reaching 10 feet tall with a similar spread. Mature bark is deeply furrowed, gray brown. Foliage is dark green in summer; gold-orange color is displayed in fall. Greenish-yellow flowers are borne on 1- to 3-inch clusters, in mid spring. Prefers moist, well drained fertile soil, tolerates shade, does not tolerate pollution or salt. Leaf scorch can be serious in drought conditions, and Verticillium wilt can be serious. It is an excellent tree for large park areas, with unparalleled fall color and overall attractive appearance. |
