| 'Erie' is a rounded-mounded shrub, 6 feet high and 10 feet wide in 14 years. It has dark green leaves which keep a good yellow, orange and red fall color. It produces 4 to 6 inches wide flat-topped cymes in white, prolific red fruits which after frost become coral and then to pink.
The foliage is dark green and lustrous, changes to purple or bronze in the fall. Flowers appear in late spring or early summer, are small, white, on 3 to 5 inches cymes, borne abundantly, covering the shrub. The fruit is a red to scarlet drupe, borne in the fall, can remain on the plant until winter.
Prefers moist, well drained, acid soil. Excellent all purpose shrub for the border, as a specimen, or for mass plantings. Not troubled by pests, native to Asia. |
