| Abies nordmanniana is a stately fir tree, usually growing 40 to 60 feet in height when cultivated, but up to 200 feet in the wild. The lustrous dark green needles densely cover the branches and have 2 whitish bands underneath. The large 5- to 6-inch cones are reddish brown, cylindrical or tapered somewhat. Grows best in slightly acidic soils in full to part sun. The cultivar, 'Glauca', has an attractive blue to green color and is pyramid in shape. The needles are flat and blunt. This dense fir enjoys a good amount of direct sun but prefers cooler climates. The soil should ideally be slightly acidic. |
