| The cultivar 'Columnaris' has a wide columnar form with branches growing to the ground and is about 3 times high as wide. This deciduous tree is cultivated for its graceful, vase-shaped growth habit with pendant branch tips and attractive foliage. Dark green leaves are alternate, ovate, toothed, to 6 inches long, and will turn a brilliant yellow in the fall. Clusters of tiny red, bell shaped flowers are followed by winged green fruit 1/2 inch across. Look for varieties which are resistant to Dutch elm's disease. |
