|Paxistima canbyi is a low growing, evergreen shrub. Branches that touch the ground will often root, slow growing. The leaves are opposite, simple, evergreen and narrow-oblong. Foliage has a lustrous dark green appearance all summer, bronzing somewhat in colder weather. Small, greenish to reddish flowers are borne in late spring on cymes, not showy. The fruit is a leathery capsule, small and white. This shrub rarely requires pruning or fertilizing, prefers moist, well drained, organic soil, but is found on rocky, limestone soils. Occasional leaf spot and scale may bother the plant. A good evergreen groundcover, low maintenance. Native to Virginia, W.Virginia.
