| Carya includes the edible nut trees the hickory and pecan. They are beautiful large native trees, important for their commercial nut crops, but not used for landscape purposes. They develop large taproots and are not easily transplanted, grow to over 60' tall, and drop leaves and fruits. Flowers are catkins or small spikes, fruit is hard cased nut, ripening in fall. In the wild seeds are disseminated by squirrels. |
