| The green joints reach up to 8 inches in length and have 6 to 8, twisted, backward and upward spines of 2 inches extending from multiple upper or marginal areoles while glochids cover the surface. In summer the large sulphur yellow flowers are borne singly and then produce edible, sweet and sour fruit about 2 inches long. This genus has the largest membership of sun loving species. Australia has even banned a few species because of their rapid growth. |
