| From the Himalayas, we get this pleasantly scented but short-lived perennial, hians. From early to late summer, purplish blue flowers 1 1/2 inches long, with white marked lower petals bloom out of the terminal spikes of the branched stem. Leaves are dark green, wrinkled, toothed and egg-shaped and has prominent veins. Salvia can be planted in a sunny border, in a meadow or used for bedding and container planting. They grow best in light moderately, fertile, humus moist but well drained soil in full sun to light shade. |
